I keep forgetting to upload more photos from Cambodia, but I will try to correct that in the coming weeks. Ta Prohm is this incredible temple in the Angkor complex near Siem Reap, one of the best preserved in the area. It is famous for the gigantic spung trees (actual name is just too hard, “Tetrameles nudiflora” 😉 ) that have literally swallowed it. Their roots are massive and they grow out of the most bizarre of places, as you will see. Personally, I thought this was one of the most exciting temples we saw – definitely worth a visit!
You can’t really tell because of the angle, but this bad boy is probably at least 50m tall…
Parts of the Tomb Raider movie were shot here, this doorway was apparently prominently featured in the film.
Just look at the detail on this window, I imagine it’s not an easy to carve stone like that 😉
Almost looks like they’re dancing, no?
They were shooting a documentary when we were there so this guy was hired to walk around.. but I asked, he was in fact a real monk.
It’s like a creepy, giant snake 🙂
What wonderful shapes the trees form.
